Specialty: Kayaking
Coaching Philosophy: The right technique will make you faster, safer, and less prone to injury much more rapidly than training alone, and much less expensively than with equipment alone!
Credentials: American Canoe Association: Open Coastal Instructor; British Canoe Union: 5 Star (Sea), 4 Star (Surf), Level 4 Coach (Sea). I have coached kayaking for over 10 years at all levels and in several disciplines including sea kayaking and whitewater kayaking. I particularly enjoy endurance sea kayaking and have paddled from San Pedro to Catalina Island and back 3 times. I race sea kayaks on occasion and generally place in the top 3 overall – men included. I learned early how much speed can be found in technique because as a kayak instructor and guide I never trained very fast, or very far, but I had lots of time to learn how to paddle very well. I have also learned how much difference a little planning and strategy can make when you know how to predict currents, use eddies to your advantage, and draft off your team mates (or competition) to save energy! In addition to coaching students to be faster and safer, I know that the techniques I coach will keep them racing for many years without the wrist and shoulder injuries that plague sloppier paddlers.
